Why does painting over a water or smoke stain not work?

Because the stain bleeds straight back through ordinary paint within days or weeks. Smoke, nicotine and water marks are full of soluble residue, so they need a proper stain block sealer first. We seal the mark, then topcoat, so it stays gone.

Will you find what caused the damage?

We trace it back as far as our trade covers. Damp patches, mould and stains are symptoms, so we look for the source, a roof leak, a flashing failure, a plumbing leak or poor ventilation. If it needs a roofer or plumber to fix the cause first, we will tell you straight rather than paint over a live problem.

Can you deal with mould?

Yes. We treat and kill the mould, address the moisture driving it where we can, then repair affected plaster and repaint with mould-resistant coatings so it is far less likely to return.

Do you repair the plaster as well as repaint?

Yes. Where water or fire has damaged the GIB or plaster, we cut out and replace or skim and stop the affected areas, then prime and paint, so you get a full repair rather than a patch and a paint job.
